I recently moved, and decided to go through all of my books and purged some in hopes of saving space.

Spring Cleaning Unhaul

For a long time now, I've wanted to reduce my books to just my favorites which I want to reread so I'v been doing some more unhauling.

Even though I did one last fall, link, where I got rid of around 60 books I did the same this week.

I tried to be tough on myself and not keep books just because they were ok or even good - if I don't want to reread it (or if I don't know if I want to but have it on my kindle) then I got rid of it. Mainly.

So no none of these books are bad, but in my opinion I didn't like them enough to keep.
And yes I've read all of the following books.

Another disclaimer to note is that when it came to classics.
I have most if not all of them on my kindle and therefore I only kept a couple of my favorites.
Even though I've really enjoyed them and think some are great, I know I won't reread them any time soon, and if I want to they're on my kindle.

Though I love physical books and having full shelves, I only want to own ones I liked and want to reread.

CLASSICS:
I have this policy about not buying classics before I read, and love, them. And so over the course of some years I have accumulated quite a collection, which I'm getting rid of and keeping my absolute favorites.
As for the collection volumes, I seem to have read the ones I wanted from them and them left the rest. So I don't want to keep them all, if I don't even want to read them.
Also pretty much all of these I have on my Kindle as well if I ever want to reread them.

MAYBE:

I've been going through all my books and thinking about which ones to keep.
The thing is I want to look at my shelves and love all the books. So in other words I want to reread all the books I do own.
My problem is 3 star books and series. They are good. And there's the problem: good. I don't love them, would I really reread them? I reread so few books because of time, so would I really choose to reread one that I didn't love?
I used to keep all the books I read because what if as a blogger I'd like to reference back to them? But why would I if I didn't like them and furthermore wouldn't recommend them?

Oh well... So I'm thinking about these things and made a maybe pile into my closet to sort out later:
(This list has also other than 3 star books)

Hex Hall 1-3
Angelfall 1-3
Princess Academy 2-3
Throne of Glass 2-3 (I'm at least keeping the novellas and the 1st one for sentimental reasons)
They All Fall Down
Red Queen (Will I continue to the 3rd book?)
Study in Charlotte (I don't know if I'll continue)
Literally
I see London, I see France

Purging Books

This might seem off the topic of books, but I like knowing what I own and really appreciating everything. The same goes for books.

I like looking at my shelves and knowing that I, if not loved, really enjoyed them. So I unhaul some books every once in a while. (latest link)
Also it's awesome way to get rid of some TBR stress!

><><><

I have trouble deciding if I can part with a book - so here are some of those reasons & reasons you should get rid of it:
-Fear of being left out for not having a hyped book
Not everyone will like a certain book, so if the fame is the only thing that drew you to it and you still haven't read it, will you ever? The hype will die down so what's your reason then?

-Certain infatuation with the books as a pleasure bringing object filling a shelf

   - not as pleasure filling your mind with a great story

-Even if you've read it, what if I need it? Review, picture, as a proud result of reading all the books one your shelves?
I understand the feeling, but do I want a physical reference to a book I wouldn't recommend? And every time you saw it you'd think "oh that was so not my cup of tea"

-Classic that everyone just should read in their lives   This I'm struggling with because I want to widen what I read and I feel like it's a classic for a important reason and I should educate myself...

-I will actually hold on to books that are being made into movies, because I always want to read it before I see the movie and even if I don't, at times if I've really liked the movie I've gone back to the book to make my decision of getting rid of it
In the end though if I love the story and want to revisit it I tend to always go towards one format or the other, and so getting rid of the other

Just remember:

×If you worry you'll regret the decision later know you can always repurchase it and love it even more

×Think and realize why you want to keep the book - the story or the physical appearance, the "mustness" gotten from others or the obligation as a book lover?
^None of these are wrong but I'd prefer to keep it because I loved the story

×Think about it: wouldn't an optimal shelf be a representation of your pride and joy in particular books - a reflection of you?
