TBR update!

Along the years, I've done lots of TBR posts/challenges/updates and now I'm proud to announce:
I'm officially at zero!
Also perfect timing because the yearly Helsinki Book Fair is next week, and I know I won't be able to not buy any books...

My yearly TBR, 2018 - (which I update): link

May of 2014 - TBR jar (I kept it up for a year): link

February of 2015 - #0by16 inspired challenge: reading all the books you bought before that year

December of 2015 - reading only books from my shelf (not from the library or my brothers shelf)

January 2016 - Around the World in 52 Books Challenge link
& again reading all the books I'd bought the previous year, which I continue

June of 2016 - TBR is at 0link (and that summer was spent reading books from my brothers shelf I was putting off)

January 2017 - Modified, around the world in 52 books, Challenge link (this time aimed for expanding what I read)

January 2018 - Modified Challenge link (aimed for expanding what I read)

An interesting thing I also I noticed was that the last four books were all different genres, and the ones I read the most (non-fiction science book, standalone fairytale retelling, fantasy series conclusion, standalone contemporary). I wanted to see if they were all a genre that I maybe don't tend to gravitate towards, but nope.

My Life In Books TAG

1. Find a book for each of your initials

SSoonish
K – Kiss of Deception
VVadelmavenepakolainen (not one I own, but I've read it)
34490192164296193346315

2. Count your age along your bookshelf: What book is it?

This is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E. Smith
15790873
I guess that suits the question...
3. Pick a book set in your city/country
The Ella books from my childhood.
15606593
I don’t think I’ve read a book set in the city I actually live in, so country will have to do.
Which is Finland.
Also fun fact in Hans Christian Andersen's story The Snow Queen there is a Finnish character from Lapland

4. Pick a book that represents a destination you’d love to travel to

Does the Wizarding World count?
If it has to be real the I'd say Anna and the French Kiss
17453983

5. Pick a book that’s your favorite color
9627755
I love green, and the combinations in this cover with the black contrast is just gorgeous!

6. Which book do you have the fondest memories of?
Right of the bat: the Harry Potter series, but I have good memories with lots of books, not only for the story they contain but also my association to them with others things I did at that time.
7955579
Also from being even younger my grandmother used to read and read an elephant book over and over again with me never getting bored of it.
7. Which book did you have the most difficulty reading?
Um...I don't know. Usually I struggle with lots of books even if I love them, but because I'm not in the mood for them. So looking back at them, having finished them I don't remember the struggle.
Currently this is happening with There's Someone Inside Your House, which is ridiculous because it's a thriller/mystery and less than 300 pages.
15797848
8. Which book in your TBR pile will give you the biggest accomplishment when you finish it?

I have two answers for this one.
1. The one I've had for the longest time: Frost Like Night
2. The longest book: The Beauty of Darkness
2851248625944798
And as you can tell these are both concluding novels to trilogies, and that just proves that I'm horrible at finishing series.

Artemis : review

Andy Weir

*ARC kindly provided through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review!*

SUMMARY:
34928122Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire...

              Release: Nov. 14th 2017

Goodreads' link to the book!

So what did I think?

So usually I tell so and so many things I liked and didn't like in the book and give the star rating accordingly, but the thing is I didn't finish this book.
Now you must be wondering how can you write a review without finishing it? And why?

So I'm not too keen on actually finishing this book, at least anytime soon. Artemis comes out next week and I really think a lot of you would enjoy it so I wanted to talk about it.

It had lots of good aspects:
The world is truly amazing and so though out
The main character: is different and intriguing
The plot: fast paced and had lots of aspects going on
It doesn't have the tone as The Martian, but I kind of liked how very different it is. There is still the aspect of space and the science though, which I really enjoy when done well.

So why did I stop? Well the answer is the biggest problem I have when reading: mood reading.
I've talked about it before - I can really enjoy a book if I'm in the right mood, but a book I know I would enjoy and am reading at the wrong time? It doesn't go so well. And that's exactly what happened here. I know I'd enjoy it - it had all those great aspects to it, but it's just not the right time yet.

I really want to know how you all like this book, so I'll keep my eyes out on Instagram for it!

Updated lists

Recap

If you didn't read a post of mine from a while back stating that during february and march I will be posting biweekly, then you now know.
That is also true for today (a day without an actual post), so I made a list of lists I've previously made and now updated.

Also my monthly wrap-ups for January-March will be in one post at the end of March, since I'm in the middle of finals now and therefore won't be writing or reading.

Social Media

[Something Different]

Kuvahaun tulos haulle facebook, twitter, instagram, pinterest uses doughnuts
Social media is a big part of our lives but at times I feel like there are way too many. Each one prizes themselves to be unique and different, yet lots of the same stuff go around all the sites.
>So which ones do I use and for what?

>We can't really say what will stick and what will disappear (like Vine).
Whether you just want to talk to people you know, find new people to talk to, talk about certain subjects, see pictures of other people's lives, see pictures of certain subjects, see videos about this or that, live stream a video, see business profiles or simply see memes about silly animals - there are so many to choose from.

In this society we feel pressure to have an account in certain places so that we can be kept "in the loop" of things. It may be Facebook, Instagram or Twitter depending on your age, country and friends but many of us want to have another account somewhere else to feel apart of the whole world.
>For example this blog: most of you readers are people whom I don't know - and I love that. It makes me feel like I'm actually accomplishing something.

A question to ask yourself before choosing your social media outlet of choise is what do you want it for. People, pictures, certain subjects (dancing, painting, huomour etc.), videos, or just a way to spend time when you are stuck in line.

The most used ones are (in order):
Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Youtube, Pinterest & Instagram

>><><><<

>I feel like it all started with Facebook. A way to communicate and find people, and for that I still sometimes use it.

>Then there is YouTube, which I love for watching videos, but I don't know where it's headed with the YouTube RED subscription.

>Then I went right into Tumblr, which I loved for seeing pictures by following different hashtags and subjects.
I don't use it anymore since I switched to Pinterest for finding those same things, but I'm not too acting here either.

>Goodreads is my go to book catalogue app where you have a page and you can meet people, find new books, see lists, quotes and authors and vote in polls.

>Then there is Instagram which I have grown to love. I made one solely based around books (@booksonal).
